TIPS & TRICKS ...or how to look after your party magician...
What follows is a number of pointers to help magic shows go smoothly at your party. No matter who you hire for the big day, the following will probably apply:
Magic shows are best performed indoors. Props are often very lightweight and easily snatched by gusts of wind. I'll concede that the sight of a magician leaping around the garden trying to catch a bunch of silk scarves is immensely comical, but it's not part of the script - not part of mine, anyway!
Parents are more than welcome to watch the show - my favourite audiences are the ones in which grown-ups sit down with the kids and get involved too. I do ask, though, that any grown-ups that aren't watching don't chat at the back of the room, as this causes a distraction for the audience and makes me a Grumpy Pete (although you'd never know it to look at me). You wouldn't believe some of the gossip I've heard!!
Party magic is best scheduled for the very beginning of a party - as a warm up for whatever events are planned - or at the very end, allowing all that sugar and lemonade to settle!
Under no circumstances should monkeys be allowed to run wild!
